Danubian Flowers – Counted Cross Stitch Pattern – Romanian Embroidery Inspired Motif

$6.27

This pattern was inspired by an unique traditional Romanian blouse handmade by my great grandmother for her daughter, around 1930. It’s a rare piece since there are not too many embroidered blouses for children left since that time. As many garments that belong to the Southern part of Romania, this one also is decorated with bright colourful flowers. The way they are displayed on long wavy vines represent “the path of life” with its ups and downs. Along the way women would carefuly place symbols of good luck, prosperity and protection.

I don’t know if any particular flower from that region is represented on this pattern but the shape of it is very similar with the one used for the four leaf clover – the universal symbol of good luck, stitched on many traditional blouses.
