Description

Rooted in the Earth and reaching for the stars, The Tree of Life is a symbol depicted in many cultures over the world since ancient times. People from different areas would represent it in different ways but the core of it’s meaning stays the same: it’s the pure source of life, the regenerative energy, the link between our limited world and the Universe, a connection between our physical life and our spirit.

This particular pattern I found while browsing the gallery of The Textile Museum of Canada. It was stitched on a traditional Romanian blouse, most likely a wedding piece, somewhere between 1870 and 1890. It belonged to the Southern part of the country known in the past as Valahia. The Tree of Life was embroidered here on many traditional garments ether as a geometric combination of shapes or with a more organic aspect.
